What is Portfolio View?

What is Portfolio View?
Portfolio View allows you to search for a specific client and review interactive cards that provide details and metrics surrounding their accounts and investments. This includes transaction activity, performance numbers, portfolio allocation, and more. Last minute client meeting? Use Portfolio View to help answer your client's questions with minimal prep!
Search for a Client
- From the Dashboard (Orion homepage), click on the Portfolio View icon towards the upper left corner and search for a client's household.
- By default, the metrics within the Portfolio View cards are based on all of the accounts in the client's household. To filter the cards and view data for specific account(s), click the dropdown menu.
- Click the gear icon to filter the selections in the dropdown by the client's Portfolio Tree, Portfolio Groups, or type of investment.
- To filter the card data for one specific entity, select a single registration, account, or portfolio group in the dropdown menu.
- To filter the card data by a group of entities, click on Quick Groups and check the box next to each one you’d like to group together. After making your selections, click the lightning bolt in the blue box to save the Quick Group.
TIP: View multiple clients within the Portfolio View at the same time! Just click on Portfolio Viewer icon to open a new tab, and search for another client.
Portfolio View Layout
Use the views and tools at the top to review specific information and complete certain actions relating to the household, registration, or account you selected.
Date Range
After selecting a specific tab, use the date range at the top to view data based on a specific timeframe.
- The lightning bolt icon will set the start date as the inception date for the account.
- Click the arrow to quickly pick a specified timeframe such as Last Month, YTD, or Rolling 1-year.
- After setting a date range, refresh the data within the cards to reflect as of this date.
ShortcutsClick the three dots that's to the right of the date range to easily run a report for this client, or to navigate to an integration or an Orion application to view additional information regarding this client |
Customize Cards
Update Card Names and SettingsAll of the cards within the Portfolio View are standard, and cards cannot be added, removed, or repositioned. However, you are able to customize the name and settings for each card. Click the three dot menu in the upper right corner of each card, and select Edit Card to review and update the card settings. Within the settings, customize options for Groupings, Sorting, Time Frames, and more. |
Detail Cards
Within the Detail cards, there are additional options to add filters, enable or disable columns, resize columns, export data to Excel, and more!
Use the search bar (1) to find specific holdings or groupings. For example, you can search for a specific Asset Class to see the holdings within that asset class.
- Hover over any column to access the hamburger icon (2) to control which columns show in the grid. Check or uncheck the box next to a column name to show or hide the column.
- Right-click in the grid to access the Actions menu (3), which includes column sizing, expand/collapse, and export options.
- Use the blue Filters button (4) to add up to 2 filters per column. Choose from And or Or filtering to start building your filter. Use the Clear All button to remove all filters.
Please Note: Users that your default view DOES NOT have access to column controls (hamburger icon), the option to pin a column (in the right-click Actions menu), or the Reset Columns option (in the right-click Actions menu). Please create a new view if you would like to utilize these features.
Update Portfolio View Settings
To review and update your preferences and settings, select the three dot menu in the top right corner and click Settings. Use the following three categories to update how your data is presented within Portfolio View. |

(1) General Settings
Investments Tree
Default View: Select the default view for the Investments Tree on the left side of the homepage.
- Entities Displayed: Select which entities to display in the Investments Tree dropdown. Options include accounts, registrations, or both.
- Orion IDs: Toggle whether you'd like to show or hide the Orion IDs in the Investment Tree dropdown.
- Included Accounts: Choose which accounts to include in the Investments Tree. For example, show all accounts, only active accounts, or only accounts with value.
- Unmanaged Inclusion: Choose whether you want to see just managed accounts, unmanaged accounts, or both managed and unmanaged accounts.
Accounts
- Display Name: Choose how to display your client account names. This setting applies to the Investments Tree only.
Account name format within the data cards themselves will pull from the Report Account Display Name setting within Firm Profile > Option Information.
- Reporting Only Accounts: Choose how to display reporting only accounts. Options include displaying both portfolio and reporting only accounts, both but with the reporting only accounts italicized in the Investments tree, only portfolio accounts, or only reporting only accounts.
Card Configuration
- Chart Type: Select from the dropdown (bar, donut, pie) to choose how the charts are shown for your user in Portfolio View.
Pie charts are excellent for illustrating the composition of a portfolio by displaying the percentage breakdown of various asset classes.

Donut charts provide additional information, such as comparing two different time periods or comparing the client's portfolio with a benchmark index.

Bar charts allow for easy comparisons and rankings. Quickly identify the best-performing and worst-performing sectors, allowing you to make informed decisions about rebalancing the portfolio, adjusting sector allocations, or discussing potential changes with the client.

Search
- Households: Select which type of Households (active/inactive) appear in the Portfolio View search results.
(2) Date Ranges
Default Date Range: Choose the default date range when viewing a client's portfolio.
(3) Color Palette
Select the color palette for your Homepage Dashboard and Portfolio View charts.
View Management
Click the View Management button to see the view setting options.
