Manually Creating Accounts

There may be some instances where you will need to manually create accounts within Orion. These could include

  • Accounts downloading from feeds live my529 that do not provide SSN information so accounts cannot be automatically created within Orion.
  • The download source is set to Auto Exclude all new accounts
  • Manually managed accounts

Whatever the case may be, below is a guide that you can use to create the manual accounts within the New Account Center's Account Wizard tool.


Step 1: Household Level Data

This screen will ask you to enter the client's information. If you are adding an account to an existing client you can click the Use Existing Household toggle and then search for the household by ID or name.

Step 2: Registration Level Data

This next step will ask you to enter the account type and will give you a chance to edit the account name. You can also enter SSN/DOB/ and Suitability information here but it isn't required.


Step 3: Account and Billing Data

The next step allows you to select the custodian and input the account number. If the account will be downloading from a custodian please ensure that the account number matches what the custodian is showing. For example, Fidelity uses a dash after the first 3 digits where Schwab omits the dashes. If the account numbers don't match what is being sent in the daily download files, the account to not be reconciled.

This tab will also let you customize the billing setting for the account as well as select the management style and any custom fields that have been previously created.


Step 4: Beneficiary Data

Please enter the beneficiary information here if needed. Select the Add button on the top left to add in additional fields. If you don't have any beneficiary information for the account you can press Next to skip this page.

Step 5: Review

Review all of the information entered and click on the step headers if you need to go back to make edits. Once everything looks good, press Add Account .


If you are using a form library integration such as LaserApp wait for the next page to load. If not, either select Back to New Account Center or navigate using the left sidebar menu. Your newly created account will now appear in the Pending section of New Account Center until one of the following occurs:

  • Data is sent from the custodian. This will cause the account status to automatically flip to Normal Downloading.
  • The Account status is manually updated to Manually Managed or Normal Downloading.
